My artwork seeks to breath new life into found objects by translating them into contemporary altarpieces. Influenced by Italian Renaissance paintings, these altarpieces are a commentary on the role that objects play in our society. A found object often frames a Madonna inspired self-portrait, using acrylic on multiple backlit layers of clear Acetate.
A found black and white TV might become the backlight for an altar that speaks of family and friends rather then characters observed on a television show. The central illuminated self-portrait makes me the protagonist of my own narrative, and not simply an observer. The altarpiece no longer refers to religion directly, but to what is considered important in our society by looking at what has been discarded by it.
